Abstract
A clinical observation was made on 41 cases of traumatic liver injury at the Capital Army Hospital from Jan. 1966 to Aug. 1968.
1) 41 cases were 8 cases(19.7%) by automobile accident, 3(7.5%) by falling and 30(72.8%) by penetrating or perforating wound.
2) The average duration from trauma to surgery was 6.7 hours and 19 cases(46.3%) were in shock state at the admission time.
3) Liver injury included 28 cases(68.3%) on right lobe, 7(17%) on left lobe and 6(14.7%) on both lobes.
4) Extensive debridement or partial lobectomy was carried out on 6 cases of severely injured liver.
5) Of 41 cases, postoperative complication occurred on 19 cases(46.6%) with infection on 15 cases (78.9%), most popular.
6) The number of organs associated with and intensity of liver injury influence markedly the prognosis of the patients. Mortality rate in total was 22%(9 deaths).
There was no death case on liver injury alone, but 10% death rate on liver injury with one organ and 50% on liver injury with five or more organs.
